¨       Selected novels

Students will be asked to:

During reading class the students will do a vocabulary study, discuss their readings, and have tests on the readings.

Additionally each student will be asked to read one AR book or do a book report each quarter.  The AR test or report on that book will count as a daily grade.

The English class will include:

¨       Grammar instruction

¨       Writing persuasive, expository, and narrative essays

¨       Daily journal writing

¨       Daily Oral Language (DOL)

¨       Giving speeches

There will be a DOL test about every 2 weeks.

The 2-inch binders will be kept in class at all times. Each student will be responsible for keeping his or her notebook in order, and keeping track of all papers.  Anytime a parent wishes to inspect that notebook, feel free to come to the classroom.

Special Projects

The two major projects that will be worked on in class but may require outside time are:

¨       Poetry Project – start in November and will be due before Christmas break.

¨       Career Project – will be done in the spring.  This involves research, making a poster and giving a speech.
