What we do in 5-2:
Reading - Develop reading skills with direct instruction of vocabulary, comprehension strategies, phonics, and fluency; using our reading series, novels, and lots of library books!
Language - Strengthen spelling, understand parts of speech, and build writing skills.
Math - Acquire knowledge of concepts including whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, measurement, geometry, and data interpretation. Emphasize application of these concepts through problem solving.
Social Studies - Learn about the history of the United States from our country's beginning to the mid 1800's along with its geography and principles of government.
Science - Explore topics including Weather, Biomes, Plants, The Earth, Metrics, Properties of Matter, Laws of Motion, and Human Body Systems.
Special Areas - Music, PE, Technology, and Library classes are taught by Special Area faculty
In addition to the content areas, fifth graders are assisted in developing personal and people skills. Possessing traits such as organization, study habits, responsibility, work ethic, perseverance, appropriate behavior choices, honesty, respect for others, manners, and cooperation will benefit students for a lifetime.
We take time every day to write assignments and important reminders in our AGENDAS. Parents, please review your child's agenda with him/her on a regular basis.
