Band Policies

Attendance

Each student is crucial to the success of the band as a team. Be sure to attend all rehearsals and performances!

All rehearsals, lessons, and performances are considered mandatory. In order to receive full class credit for rehearsal attendance, students must be on time with all required materials. To help motivate and reward students who have before school band practice, a prize drawing is held at 7:10 each morning rehearsal. Students must be seated and ready to play at that time to be eligible to win a treat from the prize box.

Absences from rehearsals and some performances are only excused with a written note or e-mail from home.Absences from such activities as pep band are only excused if note or e-mail is received prior to the day of the activity. There are no excused absences for major concert performances.

Band members are encouraged to participate in any or all other school activities. When activities conflict with before school band rehearsal, an arrangement is made between the band director and the coach or sponsor to share time.

Students are expected to attend all scheduled group lessons during the school day. Most lessons are scheduled during special area class so that students do not miss core area instruction. Students are responsible for all missed work, and all teachers have the right to keep them in class for such reasons as an exam or missing homework.

Uniform

Only Advanced Band students wear a uniform for formal performances. The uniform consists of a red polo shirt (available for purchase through the band program), black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Girls may choose to wear a skirt given that the hem is at the knee or below.

Beginning and Intermediate Band students should wear dressy clothes for concert performances. Please no jeans or sneakers. Appropriate clothing includes dress pants or khaki pants, collared shirts, sweaters, etc. Girls may choose to wear a dress or skirt knee-length or longer.

Band spirit apparel items are available for purchase each year. These items may be worn to school or casual band events such as pep band. Spirit apparel is not suitable for concert performances.

Students must have all required materials for each lesson and rehearsal. Failure to bring materials may result in a lowered grade or other consequences.
